York-based home and business energy supplier Shipley Energy, serving communities for nearly a century, has been recognized in the Central Penn Business Journal’s 2026 “In the Lead: Family-Owned Businesses” feature.
Shipley Energy is proud to be recognized as part of the Central Penn Business Journal’s 2026 Family-Owned Businesses feature. This honor speaks to nearly a century of community-rooted service and to the generations of Shipley family leadership and dedicated team members who have made this company what it is today.
The Central Penn Business Journal spotlights the story behind Shipley Energy’s roots: Thomas Shipley founded Roosevelt Oil Service in York in 1929 with a straightforward conviction: that a locally owned energy business could meaningfully improve its community. That founding belief, that “neighbors deserve to be treated as neighbors, not account numbers,” has guided the company through nearly 100 years of growth, challenge, and change.
Four generations of the Shipley family have led the business, growing it from a local oil service into one of Pennsylvania’s largest independent energy suppliers, offering electricity, heating oil, propane, natural gas, fuel, and HVAC services. Today, under CEO Dave Gruno, Shipley Energy employs 295 people and continues to look ahead and find new ways to serve its communities.
